Code of Conduct

Hahndorf Soccer Club

Members of the Club (Officials, Coaches, Players and Supporters) will, through their actions, promote, encourage, foster and advance the game of Association Football (Soccer).

Members should direct their efforts towards the Club’s success and promote unity and common purpose.

As a club we aim to:

  • Provide members with a well-run and welcoming sporting community that they can be proud to belong to.
  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of others and be fair, considerate and honest in all dealings.
  • Operate within the rules of the sport including national and international guidelines which govern Football SA, member associations and affiliated clubs (HSC).
  • Provide the necessary facilities, equipment and personnel to meet the sporting and social needs of its members.
  • Uphold our responsibility to support and encourage ongoing player development.
  • Club operations are conducted in accordance with the Club Constitution and Regulations, available for download below.

 

GENERAL CODE OF CONDUCT 

  • Respect all participants, always.
  • Respect and follow the directions of Team Officials and Referees.
  • Play to the best of your ability with an emphasis on skill development and enjoyment.
  • Never verbally abuse or use physical violence at games.
  • Set a positive example to others. Support your team, they are all trying their best.
  • Be respectful whether you win or lose, always acknowledge the other team and Referee at the end of the game.
  • Be aware your conduct reflects on the entire club and strive to be a positive role model.
  • Take an active part in activities organised by the Club and support fellow members by fulfilling any allocated duties.
  • Direct any concerns to your team manager, a member of the committee, or the Club’s Member Protection & Information Officer (MPIO)

Members found in breach of the code will be required to appear before an appropriate disciplinary committee.

 

PARENT CODE

  • Do not force a child to participate - remember they are involved for their enjoyment.
  • Encourage your child to always play by the rules.
  • Teach your child that honest effort is as important as victory so that results are accepted without undue disappointment.
  • Help your child work towards skill improvement and good sportsmanship.
  • Never yell at or single out any child for making a mistake or losing a competition.
  • Do not publicly question the referee’s or linesmen’s judgment and never their honesty.
  • Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from children’s sporting activities.
  • Appreciate the value of referees, volunteer coaches and club officials, who give their time and resources to provide recreational activities for your child.
  • Remember that children learn best by example. Applaud good play by your team and members of the opposing team and be quick to help when there’s jobs to be done.

 

COACHES CODE

  • Players grow with a coach they respect. Commit to keeping yourself informed on sound coaching principles, be generous with your praise and set a good example.
  • Know and abide by rules, regulations and standards, and encourage participants to do likewise, in both the letter and the spirit. Teach players that the rules of the game are mutual agreements which no-one should evade or break.
  • Treat all participants fairly within the context of their sporting activities, regardless of gender, race, place of origin, athletic potential, colour, sexual orientation, religion, political beliefs, socio-economic status and other conditions.
  • Encourage participants to respect one another and to expect respect for their worth as individuals regardless of their level of play.
  • Model respect for opponents, referees and officials.
  • Commit to keeping yourself informed on principles of child development and learning and be reasonable in your demands on the young players’ time, energy and enthusiasm.
  • Remember children play for fun and enjoyment - never ridicule or yell at children for making mistakes or losing a competition.
  • Place the safety and welfare of the participants above all else. Ensure that equipment and facilities meet safety standards and are appropriate to the age and ability of the players. Set tasks/training suitable for the age, ability, and health of participants.
  • Be impartial and avoid any situation which may lead to a conflict of interest.
  • Be courteous, respectful and open to discussion and interaction.
